The Venue

The Celestial Ballroom

Originally opening as the Bivouac Grill with walls bearing vignettes of General Grant’s historic battles in the 1920’s & 30’s, the Celestial Ballroom was the famed Plata Real night club and San Diego’s speak-easy; through the 1940’s & 50’s this room became “The Little Club” and hosted Hollywood’s greatest swing bands and their avid followers; upon the hotel's re-opening, it is their “ballroom under the stars” 5,590 square feet.

The US Grant Hotel: A Luxury Collection

In October 2006, THE US GRANT completed an unprecedented $60 million dollar renovation and debuted as one of the newest members of Starwood Hotel’s elite hotel division, THE LUXURY COLLECTION. A stay with THE LUXURY COLLECTION is a rich distinct platter of the land’s best offerings. Guests will receive luminous patterns of culture and terrain, and intimacy with a region’s most wondrous foods, local treasures and customs. You will find our hotel will offer an unforgettable experience, an opportunity for guests to experience old-world comfort and grandeur blended with contemporary luxury and a setting that speaks to the standard of service and unparalleled experience.

A Note About Cocktail Hats

Anyone who recalls the '30's and '40's heyday of the small hat known as the "cocktail hat," will understand why this sophisticated little hat is making such a comeback.

Perched forward on the head, often at a tilt over one eye, and generally with a veil, no other hat in history has provided a look that is so feminine, romantic, and seductive, all at the same time. Called the "cocktail hat" because it was usually worn in the evening, some are also wonderful daytime hats for a wedding or a tea.
